Pasport Info

Sorry if this is a dumb question but at work today someone said you must have a bio metric passport now to enter the US.

Please tell me this is a load of old tosh. I stil have my UK machine readable passport that was good enough 18 months ago. Is it still ok.

Pasport Info

You%26#39;ll be fine with your machine readable passport. All replacements are now bio-metric, but as long as yours was issued after October 2004 it will be fine.

Pasport Info

October 2004!!! Mine was issued March 2001

Sorry to alarm you, my own was issued in 1998 and that works fine too. 2004 is the date that the regulation regarding machine readables came into force. You%26#39;ll be fine with yours.

Mine was issued in 1999 !!! Where does that leave me?

Daisee dont do that lol.

From the UK Passport Office Web Site.

Your British passport will qualify for the US Visa Waiver Programme (US VWP) if the personal information page (the page containing your photo, your name and your date of birth) is on an inside page of the passport rather than on the inside back cover.

If your personal information page is on the inside back cover and was issued inside the UK, your passport will qualify for US VWP.

Thats as clear as mud then.

I think its fair to say if your passport is machine readable or bio metric then you are ok.

Phewwwww.

As I stated, my own issued in 1998 is still perfectly OK ( it does need renewing shortly) and as long as it has the machine readable strip on the photo page it is OK. Any new passport issued is of the bio-metric type.

As long as it has the machine readable part, you%26#39;ll be fine. If the passport was issued after 26 Oct 2005 it will also need to have a digital photo.

It%26#39;s only passports issued after 26 Oct 2006 that need to be e-passports with the bio-data chip in them
