Apartment rental and other ?'s

Hello,

My husband and me, and another couple and their daughter (1 1/2 year old) are planning a trip to NYC in December. This will be our first time to NYC. Has anyone ever rented an apartment? I%26#39;ve checked out vrbo.com and nyhabitat.com and i%26#39;m a little worried about this option. Hotels look like they are extremely expensive and most of them look terribly small, but i%26#39;m super paranoid about getting there and having nowhere to stay!

Also we are looking for the tourist experience, where is the best place to stay? We are a little worried about travelling with a small child. Maybe this is a dumb question, but how can we travel with a child that size? There is no car seat in a subway or taxi? I am not a parent, so I might be a little naive when it comes to things like this. We would like to stay somewhere that is central to many things so we can mostly walk, but we%26#39;ll probably have to use some sort of transportation throughout our stay.

Feel free to give me tips on anything you like about the city, we really want to get the most out of this trip!

Apartment rental and other ?'s

December up to around the 18th of the month is probably the most expensive and CROWDED time of the year. Everyone wants to come for Xmas shopping, Radio City Xmas Spectacular etc. Lots of people do rent apartments, but you%26#39;re right, it%26#39;s easy to get scammed if you%26#39;re not careful. I also think the risk and compromises you make for an apt. vs. a hotel are not always worth the trouble. NYhabitat.com is a reputable agent and you can be certain you%26#39;ll have a decent place or as decent as it%26#39;s represented in photos at least. VRBO.com is generally reliable, but it%26#39;s a very different thing b/c you%26#39;re dealing with individuals there (by definition it%26#39;s vacation rental by owner)--so one person can have a great experience while someone else may not.

Best Western Hospitality and the Beacon are 2 hotels with 2 bedrooms suites that might work well for you.

As for the baby issue, people use a lightweight umbrella stroller that folds easily but with the streets very crowded, it is a challenging time to visit with a small child. You might want to consider the first week of Jan. when hotel prices usually drop, Xmas decorations are still up and it%26#39;s not so crowded.

Here%26#39;s a link to some trip reports from families with young children.

Get a back pack for the baby. You get these at baby stores or camping stores .You slip it over your head and it carries the baby on your back.

You%26#39;ll never get through the streets in December with a stroller.
