Accommodation around Times Square?

Hello: My daughter and her boyfriend are thinking of visiting Manhattan for a week for the first time next Feb. and think they want to stay near Times Square! We know totally nothing about good and not so good areas to stay. They want to be able to walk to various locales, shopping, museums etc. Personally I think the Upper East side near the museums and central park would be nice. Could someone please advise on this general area of Times Square. Thanks in advance

On the left hand column of the forum they have many good hotel names, also if you have a hotel in mind...type it into the left had corner box and it will give you reviews of that hotel. Also...the Times Square area is very safe.

Accommodation around Times Square?

Hi

Here are a few picks that are nice and well liked on here. When you look at these hotels see if you like their location under ammenties. I have suggested hotels that are in all nice areas. Some in the heart of Times square and in between.

Affinia 50

Hilton Times Square

The buckingham hotel

Roger smith Hotel

Buckingham Hotel

Marriot marquis-( Times Square)

Residence Inn marriot

I can vouch for the Mariott Marquis and the Hilton Garden Inn (on 48th and 8th). Both were very decent hotels. Hubby and I felt extremely safe in both. You can read reviews of both on this site. It%26#39;s not difficult to get around in Manhattan; I highly recommend the subway if your daughter and her friend aren%26#39;t up to walking too far. It%26#39;s very safe and easy to use.

Times Square is nice to visit.........everyone should experience those flashing lights and the hustle and bustle of it at least once.........but there are so many other places that should be on their must-see list. I hope they will venture out and really explore! Happy travels!

Some people love Times Square and some hate it. Without knowing your daughter%26#39;s age or interests it%26#39;s hard to advise you. It%26#39;s safe but crowded. What sort of budget do they have? Do they plan on going to the theater a lot? That%26#39;s one very good reason to stay in Times Square. Otherwise, they%26#39;d probably get more for their money by staying elsewhere (maybe midtown east). There aren%26#39;t many hotel on the UES. The Surrey is nice and usually affordable.

I can vouch for Casablanca Hotel on 43rd Street, put my review in for 18th - 24th June here on the site. Not sure if they have larger rooms to accomodate a family but you could always ask.

Here%26#39;s a second vote for the Casablanca Hotel. 1/2 block off Times Sq. but very quiet and comfortable. I think it is the #1 hotel on trip advisor so it is a favorite for many. Rates are comparable to most other hotels but they include a very nice con. breakfast, afternoon snacks, etc. all served in a very large and comfortable second floor lounge area. It%26#39;s a smaller boutique type hotel but you cannot go wrong!

hi there we stopped at the novotel we emailed them before we went and asked for a room looking down on times sq which we got for free the usually charge an extre $20 a night for this but a great hotel

The Time hotel is another good option as are the Night and Dream hotel.Small rooms but clean ,great staff and great locations.

Times Square might be a fun place to visit, but I wouldn%26#39;t want to stay there -- it%26#39;s literally packed body-to-body with hordes of tourists. It%26#39;s not near museums or shopping (unless you want souvenir trinkets. My personal favorite area is the upper west side. It%26#39;s a large residential area, near Central Park, Riverside Park, Lincoln Center, Museum of Natural History, great neighborhood shops and restaurants. I like residential areas because you can explore at all hours and there are always people around -- that is, there are New Yorkers around. So you feel like a local. If you%26#39;re going to the theater, you can zip to Times Square in 10 minutes, it%26#39;s just one subway stop away on the #2 or #3 from 72nd to 42nd.

If they%26#39;re set on midtown, I%26#39;d recommend staying either between Central Park and Times Square. The budget Salisbury has large, clean rooms with dated furniture. Can%26#39;t beat the location on W. 57th St., near to all public transit. Just a few blocks from MoMA.

Or midtown east. It%26#39;s basically a business district, but very convenient. The most frequently recommended hotels are the Affinia 50, the San Carlos, the Kimberly (all on the same block).

A GREAT hotel recommendation is the Courtyard Marriott on 866 Third Ave....stayed there and loved it. Staying there again in January.
