Hop on/Hop off vs. subway/bus

I%26#39;m not sure what I%26#39;m missing with the hop on/hop off. It seems like it%26#39;s just charging you 5 times what NY Transit does for bus and subway access. What am I missing since it seems to be so popular?

Hop on/Hop off vs. subway/bus

The hop on/off bus brings you to the major tourist attractions and has commentary from a guide. You can do this your first day and then decide what things you want to go back to. It is not a means of transportation like the subway.

That makes more sense. A friend had told me that she and her mother use it as their primary mode of transportation for their entire stay. I like the idea of using for a day.

it really isn%26#39;t practical to use as your primary transportation....takes too long and doesn%26#39;t stop everywhere........but it is a good idea to take the loop tours to get a feel for the city and hear some history/facts you might not know.

my 1st time in nyc i took the hop on/hop off tour for like half our stay... and i would def reccomend it. i believe they pick you up every 30 mins (??--i don%26#39;t really remember srry) at the various stops they have. it is a rather touristy thing to do, but in the end a total must bc u learn %26amp; see a lot of the city. :D

From the FAQ sticky above, here is a similar thread:

SHOULD I USE THE HOP-ON-HOP-OFF BUS AS TRANSPORTATION?

QB - That%26#39;s what I needed. i had searced the forum for ';hop on'; and got limited success.

Thanks to the other posters, too.
