shopping in NYC

I will be in NYC next weekend. I have a long list of things I want to do and only three short days. I%26#39;m hoping to do a little bit of shopping (shoes, clothes, funky knick knacks and such) but only have a limited amount of time. I prefer street shops as opposed to giant department stores. Where should I begin???

The main indy boutique areas are Nolita, Meatpacking District ($$$), Lowe East Side and Soho (but Soho has more mainstream stores).

In Brooklyn, you%26#39;ll find great little shops in Williamsburg, Smith Street and Fifth Ave (NOT the same as Fifth Ave in Manhattan)

Click on Williamsburg and ';BOCOCA'; - a silly real estate name that include Smith Street.

How old are you? What kind of funky knick knacks are you talking about? What sort of budget? What kind of clothes? That will determine where might be best for you to go.

For shoes, there%26#39;s a huge DSW (discount) on Union Square.

There are some weekend flea markets that might yield the funky knick knacks.

I%26#39;m in my mid-thirties and I live in a small town that doesn%26#39;t have alot of shopping opportunities, so I%26#39;m going to be very easy to impress. I%26#39;m not into high fashion or luxury shopping, but I do appreciate good quality. My husband and I are leaving NY on Sunday to go on a Caribbean cruise so I%26#39;m looking for a great dress/shoes etc. and maybe another great outfit to wear at work when I get back home.

I have about $500 in the shopping budget. I%26#39;m not sure how far that will stretch in NYC...

Thanks for your help.

Well..... I would look in Lord %26amp; Taylor first. Yes it%26#39;s a dept. store but very sane and a reasonable size store that%26#39;s not so intimidating. Good stuff at fair prices. Have a look on their website and see if you like what you see.

For trendier (and probably pricier) options esp. for the cruise, Scoop and Calypso are 2 boutiques with multiple locations around town. In fact, Calypso started in the Caribbean.

For work, Ann Taylor (chain of boutiques) is a good option too. Loehmann%26#39;s (discount) is worth a try if you have time. But if you want to minimize your shopping time, I actually think you%26#39;re better going to one of the dept. stores rather than boutique hopping.
