Coney Island

I have just been on the website but cant work out the dates when it is actually open. We will be in NYC from the 19-24 Oct will we be able to go down and it be open?

It%26#39;s a neighbourhood rather than a resort, so it doesn%26#39;t have any opening hours as such. Astroland, the amusement park will be closed for the season, but you could still walk along the boardwalk. It is undergoing major redevelopment though, so goodness knows what it will look like by mid/late October!

The season will be long over. It%26#39;s interesting to visit off-season too though. Take a walk all the way down to Brighton Beach, which is a Russian neighborhood with interesting shops and restaurants.

Thats a shame, not to worry though. Sounds like it is worth a visit anyway, Im sure we will all enjoy it.

hi there,i made a visit to coney island when i was in new york in december 2004.i caught the subway from manhattan,the journey was about 1 hour.i got off at coney island station but stillwell avenue is nearer.it was well worth it,the best part of my trip to new york.it was freezing cold as you would expect,but did not bother me.it was nice and peaceful,a complete change of the madness of manhattan.i walked along the seafront with the planes arriving and leaving over the sea.the place was almost deserted,except for a few people.the hotdog stands all closed and signs saying the park would open in march.i thought to myself this place will be packed in the summer.the visit took up 2 hours,as i headed back to the subway i said to myself i will be back one day when the place is open.i going to new york on the 04 september,a day after the amusement park closes for the last time,i am thinking of changing my plans to arrive a day earlier just to go on the rides(really want to go on the rollercoaster).any way def going there if open or not.it was well worth a visit,you will not be dissapointed.let me know of what you think of the place after you visit.

The area is being re-developed but as of now, the plan is to keep the Steeplechase and the Cyclone open. Both are fun but the Cyclone is a VERY rough ride. Don%26#39;t eat too many Nathan%26#39;s hot dogs before going on it or you may end up seeing them again in a not so welcome way.

Also, the Coney Island Sideshow may well still be open in October. It%26#39;s an old fashioned sideshow with fire-eaters, sword swallowers, human blockheads etc. Lots of fun if you have an open mind. the website is

do you know if the cyclone will be open on the 04 september,or does it cloes on the 3rd.
