After planning a day in the Bronx for the Sunday of our NY trip, the highlight being Little Italy/Arthur Ave. and travelling via the Bronx Hop on/off Weekend trolley which lists 2 stops in Little Italy, I came across the following in Frommers ';Day by Day';, ';the Italian community of Belmont around Arthur Ave. is thriving. Home to countless small retailers, this neighbourhood is a gourmand%26#39;s dream. Don%26#39;t try this tour on a Sunday, when most of the businesses, including th Arthur Ave. Retail Market is closed';!!
I checked out ';arthuravenuebronx.com'; and specifically the link for the Arthur Ave. Market which gave no info about hours or being closed Sundays. Now I don%26#39;t know what to do. I%26#39;m puzzled why the trolley would highlight stops here if indeed most places are closed. Does anyone know if this is accurate? Would appreciate any advice here. Thank you.

Belmont/Little Italy on a Sunday
That is odd, especially when the trolley only runs at the weekends! Perhaps you could try emailing info@arthuravenuebronx.com to see if they can help sort out the confusion?
Tried emailing but it was bounced back.....';no mailbox here by that name';. Hmmmm. Can anyone else offer any info about Little Italy merchants being open on a Sunday? Many thanks!
I found an NY Times article from last year which gives details of the opening hours for some stores in that area:
===============
LITTLE ITALY, THE BRONX
Dominick鈥檚, 2335 Arthur Avenue; (718) 733-2807. Closed on Tuesdays.
Mario鈥檚, 2342 Arthur Avenue; (718) 584-1188. Closed on Mondays.
Cosenza鈥檚 Fish Market, 2354 Arthur Avenue; (718) 364-8510. Closed on Sundays.
De Lillo Pastry Shop, 606 East 187th Street; (718) 367-8198. Open seven days.
Arthur Avenue Bakery, 2413 Arthur Avenue; (718) 365-8860. Open seven days.
Mike鈥檚 Deli, Arthur Avenue Retail Market, 2344 Arthur Avenue; (718) 295-5033. Closed on Sundays.
Vincent鈥檚 Meat Market, 2374 Arthur Avenue; (718) 295-9048. Closed on Sundays.
================
So, sadly, it does appear that some (although not all) places will be closed on the sunday. I also found a tour group, Savoury Soujourns, that does a food tour around Arthur Avenue, and it doesn%26#39;t do tours on Sundays, which would also suggest a lot of the stores etc are closed on that day.

Translucentlavender, you are a gem for finding out this info for me. I will be juggling our itinary to fit in a visit on another day. Only regret is the trolley running weekends only. It seemed like a neat way to see a little bit more of the Bronx
