Buying an engagement ring in New York

My partner and i are planning on getting engaged in New York in August, any suggestions where we should buy the ring? We have approximately $7000 to spend on it, no idea how much they are.

Also if you type in Engagement rings in the search box at the top right of this section there are tons of threads along the same lines which%26#39;ll give you a good idea.

I know it%26#39;s a cliche but it%26#39;d have to Tiffanys surely?

Congratulations!!

There are some really great jewelry stores on Prince Street on Soho. One is called Reinstein/Ross and the other is called Stuart Moore. I think there are a few other ones as well. Really beautiful rings and a little more unusual (and very new york) than Tiffany%26#39;s.

Congratulations!

There are lots of great jewelry stores and which one to chose depends on what kind of ring you want and how much having it come from a ';name'; store means to you. The one thing you should NOT do is go to the 47th st. diamond district without a personal recommendation. PLEASE don%26#39;t do it. Poppa, another poster here, has someone he uses and while you don%26#39;t know him, I%26#39;d trust his reco. or one from another regular poster. Otherwise, stick with well known jewelry stores. I know of some of the ones in Soho mentioned by the last poster and they are also good but probably trendier. I think of Reinstein Ross more for bands than engagement rings. Their engagement rings are not traditional (but very nice).

Assuming you%26#39;re looking for a diamond solitaire ring (are you?) if you don%26#39;t know about the 4 c%26#39;s (color, clarity, cut, carat), start reading about them online. I%26#39;d also say think about whether you want to wear this ring every day and pick accordingly.

Go to the diamnd district. 47th Street and 6th Ave. You will find several diamond shops. Go to a few. Learn the difference. Make a deal. After the deal they will take you escorted to an independent gemologist to appraise the diamond. You then will chose a setting.

I highly recommend Wedding Ring Originals at 56th and Lexington. I ordered my ring online, then went to see them when I was in the city last month. Nice little store, beautiful jewelry, great people working there, including the owner. www.weddingrings.com
