I am wanting to travel one way from NYC to Washington DC. Can anyone advise me on the best way to this?

Is time or cost more important? If time is then take the express train but you will pay a pretty penny for it. If not take a bus, there are many buses the one I use is Apex it leaves from Chinatown in NY and goes to many different destinations on the Eastern Seaboard including DC. It is only $35 roundtrip.

I have taken Amtrak plenty of times from DC to NYC. Altough it%26#39;s not cheap, it is a very easy and comfortable ride. Plus, you don%26#39;t have to take extra time and expense to travel to the airports. The train dumps you off right downtown in D.C. You can get a discount when you purchase tickets with AAA or AARP. You can also sign up for the guest rewards program on Amtrak%26#39;s website.

you have the amtrak link already. The bus is only $20 one way if cost is a consideration.

I%26#39;ve talked to several people who have taken the bus, and they have had mixed experiences. One person has said that it%26#39;s fine, while another has told me that the bus was broken, which signficantly delayed the trip, and that the bus was too crowded and uncomfortable. If you don%26#39;t mind these things, then the bus might be the way for you. But, you should also keep in mind that the bus could also be delayed if there is a lot of traffic or an accident, and this does not usually happen with the train.

The Amtrak train will be between $150 and $200 round trip, depending on time of day, whether you take metroliner, regional train, or Acela if it starts again. I%26#39;m not sure of the one way fare.

We are taking the train in a few weeks from Washington (actually from the BWI station - easier to park) to NYC - Penn Station. We upgraded to business class on the regional train, and got the AAA discount. Out on Friday morning and back on Sunday afternoon. We are paying less than $400 for two of us.

I am planning to go to NYC from D.C. I was planning on taking the train, but seeing the post that the bus was cheaper, I am now having 2nd thoughts. We are staying at the Ramada New Yorker, and we are staying in Dupont Circle in D.C.

If we take the AMEX bus, with the the pick-up station in D.C. be near Dupont Circle and is the drop-off in NYC near the New Yorker???

Thanks.

Jamafour, if you can change your NYC hotel reservation, I would. The Ramada New Yorker is not great. If you can%26#39;t change, it%26#39;s across from Penn Station. The bus mentioned goes to Chinatown, but there are other bus cos. that would stop near Penn Station. I think Greyhound is now charging the same as the Chinatown buses and they come and go from Port Authority bus terminal which isn%26#39;t too far from the New Yorker.

Can someone tell me why it is not possible to book the AMTRAK tickets online for non US residents? There is a request for billing address and no choice of the country, except for the US...

I was also wondering is it necessary to book in advance, does it have influence on the price of the ticket in AMTRAK?

Train is nicest but pricy.

Greyhound has frequent service and within 1/2 mile of train station on both ends. I%26#39;ve use Greyhound my last two trips from NYC to DC and besides a heavy footed driver in pouring rain - it was a much more pleasant experience than I anticipated.

I would say the biggest negative of bus service is the bus station at both ends. If you decide on Greyhound verify you board an express to avoid stops and minimize time.
