is there an outdoor shopping market for clothes and other goodies? I see the Union Square market but it looks like it is just for food and edibles.

There are flea markets. A nice one that also has lots of new merchandise as well is held every Sunday at the school yard at Columbus Ave. and 77th St.
In addition to the green market at Union Square, there are lots of vendors at the south end selling all kinds of artsy stuff, tee shirts, etc.
