47th st. is one of the largest jewelry centers in the world. I think you have misjudged it based on hearing the term ';jewelry exchange.'; I don%26#39;t know what you mean by quirky, but you%26#39;ll find mostly traditional things there (imo). If you%26#39;re looking for costume jewelry (not real gold or gem stones) this is not the place to go. Many people also feel it%26#39;s easy to get ';taken'; purchasing there unless you know the jeweler.

What exactly do you have in mind in terms of budget and look?

i like stuff you wouldnt pick up in any old store in every part of the world, you know the story.. youre passing by a shop on holiday and you see something that you know you%26#39;ve seen back home. rings, especially silver are what i%26#39;m looking for maybe up to $200

and what i mean by quirky is something you look at and go wow.. thats unusual. i bought a silver ring in new zealand a few years ago, its in the shape of a ladies face, the hair is long and flowing and wraps all the way around your finger to form the ring...

The ';jewelry exchange'; or 47th st. as we refer to it is NOT imo the place for silver, let alone unusual silver. It%26#39;s best for diamonds, gold and colored stones that are higher priced.

There%26#39;s a store called Charley and Kalley in the village that might be worth checking.
