Harry Potter!!

Just realised that we are in New York next weekend when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows comes out. We are staying at the New york Athletic club (CPS and 7th). Does anyone know where the nearest bookstore is? Thanks.

Harry Potter!!

There%26#39;s a Borders in the Time Warner Center.

Harry Potter!!

Keep an eye out on the Barnes and Noble in Union Square the last time her book came out that day the did up Union Square like Hogsmead it was alot of fun! That is the store they usually have the midnight readings from.

Cheers,

on the Barnes %26amp; Noble website they are confirming a huge Harry Potter Bash in Union Square on Friday the 20th.

Cheers,

Thanks guys. Was just checking online. Toys R Us at Times Square have a big party. We have tickets to Chicago City Limits that evening (thanks for recommendation Skatedancer). Looks pretty close. Now, how to persuade my boys to go to the comedy club as a Harry Potter character ready for the party and book buying at midnight......

CathC- you are planning on doing a comedy club also that evening? what time are you planning on getting there? People start to line up really early, I think last tiem my husband and I started to line up around 8 or 9pm and even then the line was getting long. So just wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect.

Cheers,

Yes, Magic97. Slight technical hitch there. I arranged the comedy club tickets before I noticed the clash. We have the book on order here at home but I thought it might be fun to get a taste of Harry Potter fever New York style. Any idea what time Chicago City Limits finishes? We%26#39;ll probably chance it anyway.

Jim Dale (who read all the audio HP books) will be at the Union Square Barnes and Noble on the 20th. I had the time written down, but my daughter informed me she%26#39;s too old to go.

Scholastic (US publisher of the Harry Potter series) is sponsoring a big bash. From their press release at the end of June (scholastic.com/aboutscholastic/news/press_06…):

To celebrate the 7th and final installment of the Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which will be released on July 21 at 12:01 a.m., Scholastic ... will host “HARRY POTTER PLACE” – a magical and interactive street celebration for kids and adults at Scholastic headquarters in New York City (Mercer St. between Prince and Spring). Scholastic will open “Harry Potter Place” on Friday, July 20th with a press conference at 8 a.m., where the first author-signed U.S. edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be unveiled. Harry Potter Place will open to the public the same day from 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.

The magical world of “Harry Potter Place” will feature a giant Muggle Board where Harry Potter fans can share personal messages about the Harry Potter books. Muggles will also be mesmerized by the twenty-foot high moving Whomping Willow, and entertained with activities and entertainment including: face-painting, wand-making, fire-eaters, magicians, jugglers and stilt-walkers. Harry Potter fans of all ages will also be able to have their photos taken with the cover art from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in the special Deathly Hallows Gallery. As the excitement builds, the Countdown Clock will track the hours, minutes and seconds until the 12:01 a.m. release.

The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Knight Bus, a replica of the “violently purple” triple-decker bus from the Harry Potter books, will end its seven-week national tour at “Harry Potter Place” in time for the launch of the 7th and final book. The bus will arrive at the 8 a.m. press conference and will remain parked in front of Scholastic at 557 Broadway from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Fans can line up to board the bus and create a 20-second video expressing their thoughts about the Harry Potter books. Each participant will receive a unique password to view their video at www.scholastic.com/harrypotter.

Sounds like a full day of fun and excitement (and crowds!) But, you%26#39;ll have bragging rights!

For what I imagine will be a bit more toned down activities, check out Books of Wonder (http://www.booksofwonder.com/events.asp).

Wow, the scholastic bash sounds amazing. My boys were small when the first book came out but are now huge 6 foot teens. I think they like the idea of roaming around Manhattan at midnight and buying the book en route. A whole day of themed activities might be overkill for them at this stage. We will be down near Union Square earlier in the day so will try check out the barnes and noble.

Thanks for all the info.
