We noticed that this appears to be an island with absolutely no activity while on the Staten Island Ferry. It and its%26#39; ferry terminal is absolutely beautiful. Is there a reason why such ';prime'; property is sitting empty?

Thanks for the informative sites. Seems like such a shame to use that area for so little activity.
They are still deciding what to do with the island and its development.
If you have a chance to visit, do so, it is fascinating.
We would have loved to have visited it but we viewed it via Staten Island Ferry last Thursday and it was a ghost town at that point. So beautiful and tranquil looking.
Hey ..... don%26#39;tstayathome ..... I know just what your talking about ..... the federal government only recently gave Governor%26#39;s Island back to New York and now we need to make good use of it. Me and my best buddy have conflicting plans for that island.
My best friend wants NYC to turn the island into one great red light district and big casino ..... gambling, booze and babes ..... obviously my friend is single ..... and I%26#39;m guessing staying that way. I told him that a few people might have a problem with his proposal ..... like religious leaders, women, founding fathers and the city of Las Vegas for ripping off their idea.
My plan is a bit different ..... since Disney did such a great job with Times Square ..... I propose we let Disney convert the island into ';Ye Olde Time Square'; ..... Goofy can run the Three Card Monte stand on top of a cardboard box ..... Daisey Duck and C[S]inderella can strut their stuff and shake their money machines ..... Mickey can strong arm a few tourist and run the whole gang ..... Donald can be a corrupt politician on the take who looks the other way ..... as we recreate good olde Neuw York.
The third option is to turn the island into the Kingdom of Lotuspath ..... I can be the imperial ruler ..... and Bettina can be my Queen ..... but I wonder what my wife will say ..... (fade to dream sequence) .... I wonder ..... what would my wife say anyway ..... and how would I respond ?

But I think that Sweden should buy it and fill it with IKEAs with restaurants which serves only meatballs, tenniscourts where you can play against your own copy of Bjorn Borg, Volvo has a build your own car place, restaurants with smorgasbord with a lot of raw herring and lingonberries, there are ombudsmen to talk to about different issues, there are cinemas that show the old Swedish ';erotica';-movies from the 1960:s etc.
Sounds like a great place to visit for you stressed New yorkers.
