Driving to nyc from canada - tips?

Hi, first of all I want to thank all the wonderful people on here for their excellent advice. You%26#39;ve all helped in planning my first trip to NYC with my daughter in a couple of weeks. Thanks to all of you, our trip is all planned and we%26#39;re ready to go! Since we%26#39;re driving, I have a couple of questions: I%26#39;ve heard of something called an EZpass that would simplify the tolls that we%26#39;ll be encountering along the way. Does anyone know if I can purchase this from Canada? Haven%26#39;t been able to trace this info on their site. Also, I have to be honest and say I%26#39;m a little nervous - once we get close to the city (we%26#39;re supposed to go through the Lincoln Tunnel), how complicated is it to get to Times Square? We plan on parking the car at the hotel (Millenium Broadway) until we leave, but getting it there is making me a little worried...Thanks once again for all the help!

The EZ pass is purchased through the mail and you give a credit card #. With my pass I have one account with three tags, one on each car. They put $25 on the account and whenever the account gets low it is automatically updated with more $$. It is a great timesaver as it works almost everywhere. I have used it for trips to Boston many times and throughout PA.

When you come through the Lincoln Tunnel you are at 40th street and about 10th avenue, just two blocks from Times Square. You have to decide where you want to park as it is pricey at the hotels and possibly less expensive in another lot a block or so away. As you look at maps you will see that almost all of the even numbered streets go East and the odd numbered streets go West. 42nd street is an exception as it a two way street but you can%26#39;t always turn off from 42nd street so it is better to stick to other streets.

EZ-Pass is more of a convenience for commuters - where through the marvels of electronics the pass is read each time you use a toll and you are billed for how many times you use the particular road, bridge etc.\

For a tourist it is just as weasy just to ay the toll, IMO.

Just GOOGLE for diredtions and take it from there, no use worrying in advance, you%26#39;ll do fine.

I meant it is just as easy just to pay the toll.

Sorry for the typos......

In my opinion, New York City is one of the easiest cities in the world to drive in. Most of Manhattan is a simple grid of streets and avenues, the stoplights are synched to make driving long distances north and south easy (unless there%26#39;s heavy traffic) and New Yorkers are extremely approachable for directions. The key is to relax - take deep breaths and don%26#39;t be nervous. Getting to Times Square from the Lincoln tunnel is a piece of cake:

(and that%26#39;s just one option)

To find the least expensive garage in a particular area, use the website below:

You guys are so awesome! Thank you and I%26#39;ll be back here to tell you how everything went, which I%26#39;m sure will be fantastic!

Since you should have some flexibility in timing, try to avoid the morning or afternoon/early evening rush hours (after 4pm) when the city and the tunnel become a gridlock. Early afternoon traffic usually isn%26#39;t too bad and will make your drive much easier.
