Avenel, NJ to New York City

My kids, wife, and I will be staying at this hotel when I visit NY next week:

Holiday Inn Express

874 Route 1, Avenel, NJ 07001

I know it is a bit far away from NYC, but for some reasons I have to choose this location.

So what is the best way for me to go to mid-town by public transportation?

Should I take a cab to Newark Penn station first before I catch a train (or PATH subway) to the big apple?

Please advice.

No, a cab would be very expensive. Take the NJ Transit from Avenel straight into Penn.

id recommend njtransit, NOT a cab. it%26#39;s very straightforward, and barring delay youll be in the city in less than an hour. take the train from avenel directly to nyc penn station, then you can take the subway or a cab wherever you%26#39;re going.

I would NOT recommend taking the train from Avenel. It is a limited stop station. Trains basically only stop there during rush hours so into the city in the morning and back to Avenel in the evenings. Check the schedule and see if it works for you but you will get more frequent service from Woodbridge station or Metropark station.
