Totally dumb question re baseball/Yankees

We want (very much) to go to a baseball game in September. The games that would be suitable are the Yankees vs the Baltimore Orioles. There are 3 games on 17, 18 %26amp; 19 Sept. Here comes the dumb questions

1. do the same teams play 3 nights in a row (and if so, why?) or is it A level team, followed by B level team etc?

2. the array of seating options %26amp; prices is amazing! If you came to see a premier game of league in Sydney (Ozz) there would be at the most 3 pricing options. So, subject to availablilty %26amp; not spending a fortune, which seats would be ok for novices to get an appreciation of the game

3.Is this a game worth seeing (ie are they worthy opponents?)

4. when would the game finish - does a night game have more ';atmosphere'; than a day game?

Would love to go if tickets are aailable - your advice is more than welcommed!

Totally dumb question re baseball/Yankees

1) Yes the same teams play? Why? To reduce the amount of traveling they have to do. Rather than fly to another city for just 1 game, they try to play 2 or 3. You won%26#39;t see the same pitcher for all 3 games, but the teams are the same.

2)The best you can afford

3) Right now in their league and division, the Yankees are #3 and the Orioles are #4 so yes, worthy opponents.

4) Games generally last around 3 hrs. but can be more or less. The atmosphere has more to do with the teams playing (imo).

Totally dumb question re baseball/Yankees

Expounding on what NYWhiz said...

1) Yes, these sets of games (which can range from 2 games to 5 games) are called a ';series';. Lower level teams do not play - in fact they are often based in entirely different cities - in baseball these are called the ';minor leagues'; and are used for player development. They follow different schedules.

2) Generally speaking, the closer you are to the field, the better the seats, for obvious reasons. That said, the upper tiers at Yankee Stadium can be great, because you get a full panoramic view of the Stadium and the surrounding neighborhood. I will note though, that if you have any fear of heights, the upper tiers might not be a good idea.

3) Yes, the Yankees are currently third in the American League East, and the Orioles are fourth. Mid-to-late September is a great time to see a game, as the regular season is winding down, and the playoff race (to get into the post-season championship games) is heating up.

4) Both day and night games have their charms. No matter what, go an hour or two early and check out the pre-game atmosphere - the food, the fans. Big baseball fans will surely want to watch the pre-game practice, including batting practice, but if you%26#39;re not a big fan, it can be skipped and replaced with a stroll through Monument Park, a memorial to great Yankees of the past, which is inside the Stadium.

I thought SoxFan showed great restraint in answering #3.

I would also throw in that you should ask questions of the people around you. They would get a big kick out of explaining baseball to someone from Australia.

TPXB - there is some super restraint going on -NYSF arent the Sox 1st place in the AL East - well, I know the answer, yes they are, but it isn%26#39;t September yet, is it?

Shellbell - you%26#39;ll love your major league baseball experience - hope you enjoy the game.

I%26#39;d also suggest checking the weather forecast as the date approaches.

(Enter ';Bronx, NY'; in the locaiton box.)

Not a bad idea to bring sunscreen and sunglasses for day games, and perhaps a little anorak or sweater/jumper for night games.

Be careful of bleacher seats in Yankee Stadium. Bleacher seats are the farthest from the action and worse, they do not allow access to the rest of the Stadium.

The whole reason to go to Yankee Stadium is to absorb the atmosphere as well as the history and culture of the game. Yankee Stadium has an unusual area called Monument Park, dedicated to the memory great Yankee ball players (along with Jackie Robinson, who did not play for the Yankees, but broke the ';color barrier'; in the Major Leagues; a giant first step towards integrating the United States and ending a hideous and embarrassing part of our history).

Those fans who purchase bleacher seats are denied the priveledge of access to Monument Park or any other parts of the Stadium.

Oh, and they don%26#39;t serve beer in the bleachers either.

Get seats as close to ';home plate'; as you can. My favorite seats are upper-deck-behind home plate, or ';infield'; on the ';first-base side.'; They give the best view of the game and offer the best value.
