Park car, visit NY

I don%26#39;t want to drive through NY.

So what is a nice place to park the car and take the metro?

Park car, visit NY

Firstly, it is called the subway. If you say Metro you will get many blank states.

But, where are you driving from? Where are you driving to?

Park car, visit NY

Agree you need to give us more info about:

%26gt;where you%26#39;re coming from

%26gt;what you want to do in NYC

%26gt;how long you plan to stay

%26gt;whether you%26#39;re thinking of parking the car for a few days and staying in Manhattan or whether you%26#39;re thinking of staying outside Manhattan (not the best idea)

%26gt;how many you are

%26gt;budget

Parking in and around the city is always difficul. Some options:

Enter the city via the lincoln tunnel and park at the garage right at the manhattan side

book at the travel inn on 42nd street - free parking for guests.

Driving here is not hard as long as you remember a couple of things:

1) no right on red anywhere in the city. You will not see signs at any lights, just one big one as you enter the city.

2) there is always a lot of traffic, just be patient.

3) Parking is a b*tch.

Extra info:

I%26#39;m Dutch.

Will be staying in USA for 2 weeks.

Driving from Washington to Niagra falls and back.

Want to do some sightseeing for 1 or 2 days (in NY).

There%26#39;re 3 of us.

I%26#39;ll be staying in Bethesda and take the subway to the sights in Washington DC.

Would be nice to do something similar to see the sights in NY.

For starters, driving to and from Niagara Falls is a HUGE waste of time and money imo. It%26#39;s at least 7-8 hrs. in each direction. There are relatively inexpensive flights on Jetblue.com from NYC to Buffalo, NY. From there you can find tours of Niagara Falls or rent a car in Buffalo. The word is it take HOURS to cross the US/Canadian border by private car. Even more reason to fly and take a tour. If you%26#39;re planning on doing this in winter, it%26#39;s an even worse idea.

That aside, stay at the Travel Inn IN Manhattan. It has free parking

I would stay In Queens then. here is more hotel sin queens where you can park and travel to the city.

Extended stay - as I posted before

Adria Ramada hotel northern blvd bayside Queens

Anchor inn hotel - close to ramada Adria

Decent hotels and good access to the subway. They are not Trump hotels but will do.

The Inn at Great Neck . It is considered longi sland but boarders Queens. This is a very nice area.

i take it that you mean washington dc and not washington state right?

the drive from nyc to buffalo/niagara falls isnt all that bad, as a matter of fact, parts of it are very scenic. ive driven

to new jersey and also to new haven/hartford (two different routes) a number of times and it wasnt bad at all. it is possible to drive it in 61/2 to 71/2 hours easily, depending on your route.

to me, it would be a waste of $ to fly from nyc to buff then spend more to take a tour (no one i have spoken to has felt it was worth the $ to do one of the few tours to the falls), its not that big a place and to do a self tour is easy.

as far as crossing the border into canada, unless its a holiday weekend, it is relatively simple to cross over on the rainbow bridge. we run up there on weekends to go to a favorite steak house / casinos and usually we get through in under 5 minutes each way.

I remember another poster who had looked into the fly/tour option from nyc and it cost around $450 per person total to do so, not including a hotel. IMO, that is a huge waste of cash for something you could do yourself rather easily.

hate hate hate to go against your advice NYCWHIZ, but this is my neck of the woods and i do have some knowledge of the area and what it takes to do this journey.

I hear ya buca and agree it%26#39;s your neck of the woods and I bow to your knowledge there. I wasn%26#39;t suggesting they book the whole trip on a tour but rather book their own airfare and just do a bus tour from Buffalo airport to avoid renting a car and dealing with the border crossing on their own. I still think on a 2 week trip it will take 3 days to drive to and from Niagara Falls whereas if they fly, they can do it in 1 or 2.

Meantime, when do we get to hear about your stay at the Maritime, buca?

Thanks for the advice.

Ofcourse I%26#39;ll not drive to niagra falls just to see the falls. The plan is to rent a car for 11 days and drive through your beautifull country. Start and end%26#39;ll be Washington DC (Dulles). Somewhere in between I%26#39;ll go to NY and niagra falls and a lot of other places on the road.

So if you know nice things to do in that area, let me know.

(Amish, caves, nat. parks, museum, attraction park) As long as my 10yr old daughter%26#39;ll like it.

Hi

Howe Caverns is a place to see-www.howecaverns.com

For Amish - Lancaster Pennsylvania- There is a Dutch wonderland and plenty Amish exhibits. The best one is in the Target shopping center. You can check out the Lancaster forum for more info. If You go to Lancaster, I would try the Best Western Revere or Fulton steamboat inn. The Hershey farm and restaurant %26amp; inn is real nice and close to attractions, so is the steamboat inn.The Eden resort, I went to I did not like it too much highway noise.

Hershey Park amusement park- Knoebels Amusement park free parking free admission, I find to be one of the cheapest and very nice amusement park their roller coasters are #5 in the country.

There is a quality inn hotel close by and a Days inn in Danville for Knoebels

www.hersheypark.com - this one can be$$- there are discount tickets in Wedys fast foods

www.knoebels.com

Allentown, PA - Dorney park

Connecticut- lake compounce amusement park- and mystic seaport

Cape cod in Massachusetts - nice area-

New Jersey - wildwood

maryland- Ocean city and Bethany beach

Pocono mountains and Delaware water gap

There are so many places to stop which ever direction you , may go.
