Best place to stay to watch the Phantom of the Opera?

I am planning for a weekend getaway on August to watch the Broadway Phantom of tha Opera, but I am so confused in looking for the nearby hotel that is nice and affordable. Any suggestions?

You don%26#39;t necessarily have to stay right near the theater since there%26#39;s good public transportation. But if you do want to be in the Times Square area, any hotel in the west 40%26#39;s or 50%26#39;s would work. Depending on which weekend in August, you might even find a deal for a nicer hotel. The Time hotel is running a special on travelzoo.com for $199/night and that would be reasonably close.

If you want to spend less than that, you might want to bid on Priceline for a 4* hotel in midtown west. You could win the NY Hilton or the Hilton Times Square for as little as $120-140/night plus tax. Most people would also book a cancelable reservation somewhere in case they don%26#39;t get a room thru Priceline.

I picked the arbitrary weekend of Aug 17-18 and found the Salisbury hotel on quikbook.com for $162/night (fully cancelable). While not right in Times Square, it would be a good hotel in a good location.

The Edison Hotel is a budget hotel near the theater that would be ok.
