We are staying on the American side because my parents want to do something new and we have stayed on the Canadian side twice so far. We are staying for 4 days. I know there are many more attractions on the CAN side than the US side, so we will probably be going back and forth over the border a couple days. Is it a big hassle to drive from US to CAN side? Parking, too? My mother has recently had knee replacement surgery and cannot walk for long distances. That is another reason we are staying on the US side. It seems that any hotel we can afford is up on the hill. I don%26#39;t know if she would be able to walk across the Rainbow Bridge AND walk to see all the attractions. Is the Rainbow Bridge long? From what I remember of it, it is a pretty long bridge (but I%26#39;ve never been on it so I don%26#39;t really know).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Driving over the border?
The Rainbow Bridge itself is about 1/4 mile long, but, of course, you have to get to the bridge and to wherever you are going on the other side, so it could end up being a fair walk. The good part is that it is only .50 to cross and there are no lineups. Driving across can be anywhere from a few minutes wait to an hour, depending on day, time of day, etc. There is a large parking lot upriver from the Falls that is $6.50/day and includes a shuttle to/from Table Rock Center at the Horseshoe Falls. From here, the People Mover buses can take you to all the Niagara Parks attractions ($7.50/day), or you can also rent a wheelchair here.
Driving over the border?
We were in Niagra Falls last weekend and the bridge was traffic free going to Canada but the line was very long coming back to the US side. If your mother recently had surgery, I would not try to walk, its a pretty far distance.
And please don%26#39;t assume that you%26#39;ll need to go to Canada to find things to do. There are many things to do within 20 minutes drive of Niagara USA. Depending on traffic lines at the bridge, that may be a better, hassle-free plan. From kid-friendly attractions (Fantasy Island amusement park, the Carrousel Museum) to the winery region, from historical sites (Erie Canal cruises, Fort Niagara -- the oldest structure on the Great Lakes) to the world-famous Whirlpool JetBoats in Lewiston, you can easily fill 4 days on the American side. It%26#39;s a different experience (less Vegas-y, more natural and laid-back), but don%26#39;t assume you%26#39;ll need to go elsewhere to fill your days. The pace on the US side may be just right for your mother!
