inexspensive rooftop bars

hey guys and gals looking for some inexpensive and dont have to dress to impress the locals. just want to go hang out with friend and have a few drinks and maybe a lite bite to eat.

any suggestions? i read a few online here and so far everyone said if you want views you will have to pay... thanks for any suggestions.

If you want the view you have to pay. Sorry. But there is one place I take my friends to that is not too bad. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a lovely roof garden. Drinks are not too pricy, and the view is great. The Museum has a pay what you want entry policy and is open late on saturday nights. Not much in the way of food though - coctails are about $10 each. There is also a bar/resturant called Top of the Tower in the Beekman hotel on the east side, good for a drink or two.

There is one near Macy%26#39;s - I%26#39;m totally blanking on the name. It%26#39;s on top of a hotel - Hotel Metro maybe? The drinks aren%26#39;t super expensive. Hopefully someone else can help me out with the name and exact location!

Also Social on 8th Ave around 47th Street has a good roof deck and also not super expensive.

The Hotel Metro is correct - it%26#39;s 45 W. 35th Street. Their (out of date)website mentions it%26#39;s closed for improvements and hoping to open in Mid-June. Not sure if it%26#39;s open or not, but it has a great view of the ESB and wasn%26#39;t too expensive in the past. But with ';improvements'; probably comes higher prices!

Try Sutton Place on 2nd Ave between 53rd and 54th St.

trav28: It is the Hotel Metro and their rooftop bar is a good cheap enough choice. View is ok, right next to ESB. Beers are about the same as in any bar and there%26#39;s no cover. Good crowd during happy hours on Thurs and Friday during warm weather. It%26#39;s on W 35th b/t Sixth and Fifth, closer to 6th.
