going upstate last week of july or first week of Aug. Help?

I need ideas of places to stay so can you please give me ideas of what places are nice, what is around the area (anything you can think of) and, the region it%26#39;s in (Mountanous many lakes etc.), what events take place during the week stated above. Any where within a 5 hour trip of NYC.

A town on a lake in a mountain area with many things to do would be great but any other places you put I will also look into

Northland Motel is a quaint, but very clean and comfortable . Our room had two single beds and at $65 a night we felt that we had really gotten a great deal. A back door in all the rooms allows you to sit under cover and view the beautiful mountain that takes up the whole horizon. They don%26#39;t%26#39; furnish coffee pots so just bring your own.

The previous night we stayed at the Hotel 8 in Oneonta and our room was filthy and reaked of vomit. We paid $120 for that room, so we were naturally a little apprehensive about a $65 dollar room, but we were very pleasantly surprised.

The Northland motel in Fleischmanns is close to Bellaire Mt., the world%26#39;s largest kaleidascope , located in Phoenicia is down the road (about 20 minutes), this is a must see! A silo is the kaleidascope and you lay on the floor (if you want to) and just look up at the show. the images are choregraphed to music, and features sourround sound FANTASTIC! A shop is on the premises that offers everything you can imagine with a wide price range - kind of like a pier 1 crossed with Macy%26#39;s.

The Town Tinker Tube rentals is also in Phoenicia. Here you can rent a tube and go down the creek as often as you like. A bus brings you back up the creek each time you go down. Make sure to wear some crappy sneakers - the rocks can be slippery when you stand up.

All of these places have their own websites, I believe. For the Kaleidascope just enter Kaatskill Kaleidascope in your browser.

The INN Between is great place to eat, no loud music, you can have a window table over looking Esopus Creek.(Aarkville - not sure). You can also take a ride on the Ulster Railroad in Aarkville. It%26#39;s a two hour trip up to a museum and back.

If you are into yard sales - they are everywhere!
